“When We Are Apart”

It seems a bit silly,
Casting hopes to the northern wind
That they may be carried to your step
Yet I pray-
Find me there, beside you
My fingers, the gust
That tousles those gentle waves
My smile, the warmth
Of the sun upon your back
My will, the strength within your legs
That drives you onward when you would fall
And my love, the blanket that wraps you
Safely secluded from all harm
