“Day Off”

sleepy morning at 2 pm
thick fingers rub tired eyes
trunk-like legs
bereft of youthful agility
bang into the furnace
I stumble toward my chair
blanket-draped, gift
from loving man
coffeepot makes gurgling sound
and I doubt
if even the dark brew
can raise me from my stupor
and that’s just fine
because today
has no hold over me
today, I reject
the responsibility of adulthood
in favor of fuzzy pajamas

  1. I look forward to the far distant future when I too can enjoy a day of a two pm wake up and a slow pot of coffee. I envy you.
I wake promptly at 7 am to an enthusiastic three year old and 15 years seems a long time to wait for a full 18-20 hour sleeping binge.
I write more in my head these days than on the computer or notebook. It makes me feel like a fraud when I call myself an author 🙂
Ahh my envy of you is so deep, you could take a swim in it

    1. One day. Sometimes it seems those days are years apart, but another will come eventually. You’ve got this. =) If it helps at all, I’ll take a moment to appreciate my good fortune, and the efforts of those who will spend the day elsewhere. Sending my best wishes to you
